There is strong support for another bridge

A huge thanks to everyone who gave feedback for Cambridge Connections. We’re stoked to have had 461 responses - so thanks for getting involved and sharing your ideas.

We’re currently working through all the feedback, but an early analysis has shown some key themes coming through:

  1. Land use planning: People want housing growth to be planned so roads, services, and other infrastructure can keep up with it, especially in Leamington.
  2. Cycling improvements: Cycling is a strong theme, with mixed feedback between people who support the cycleways and want to see them extended, and those who feel the cycleways have come at the cost of traffic flow.
  3. Public transport: There is strong support for a public transport network within Cambridge. Major ideas include a ‘loop’ service around town and better commuter connections.
  4. Intersection improvements: The ‘white church’ and Shakespeare Street roundabouts are frequently cited as pinch points, with suggestions including traffic lights and re-opening closed-off roads.
  5. Another bridge: There is very strong support for another bridge. Many suggest it should be located to manage growth in Leamington.

A full report will be released once the analysis is complete - so watch this space!

What happens next?

All ideas are being collated into a ‘long list’ of transport ideas. The long list will go to our Elected Members on Wednesday, April 1 to decide how the ideas should be assessed and filtered into a short list of options. They’ll look at things like whether the ideas effectively solve the transport issues and how they reflect Council strategy, as well as feasibility and value for money. Once Council has a short list of transport options, we’ll come back to the community to ask what you think. By the end of this year, we’ll have a finalised transport plan.
