Background
ResourceCo Ltd has applied for a limited notified resource consent to carry out a managed fill activity at 3831 Cambridge Road, Cambridge.
The proposal involves moving a large amount of earth (over 1.4 million cubic metres) and raising ground levels in some areas by up to 21 metres. Work will occur in four stages over 10 to 20 years.
A 13-metre-high retaining wall will be built along the northern edge of the site as the fill is added, and it will be grassed as construction progresses. Other retaining walls inside the site will range from ground level to 14 metres high. Some pine trees in the northeast corner of the site will also be removed as part of the proposed works.
Materials for the managed fill will be stockpiled on site as work progresses. The site will operate from 7am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday. Up to four truckloads per hour will enter and leave the site (about 8,000 truckloads per year, using the existing entrance).
Only materials that meet the rules for a Class 3 Managed Fill will be accepted. This includes clean fill, controlled fill, and some soils with low-level contaminants that require special management to protect the environment.
