🥫 Food safety after a flood

🧼 Cleaning up after a flood

  • Clean and dry quickly

Wet items can grow mould within 48 hours and make your home unhealthy.

  • Watch for health risks

Mould can affect people with asthma, allergies, or breathing problems.

  • Get advice if needed

Talk to a doctor or consider professional cleaners for heavy mould.

  • Respirator (mask)
  • Goggles
  • Gloves
  • Protective clothing (cover arms and legs)
  • Sturdy footwear
  • Throw away anything that can’t be properly cleaned after floodwater exposure.
  • Discard wooden utensils, plastic items, and baby items (teats, dummies) if contaminated.
  • Disinfect metal pots and utensils by boiling them in clean water.
